Is it worth it to stay right on the riverwalk?

Will be going to San Antonio late Jan w/husband as a side trip to hubby%26#39;s business trip. From my initial search for a hotel (spending one night) the choices are either stay right on the riverwalk or downtown. The prices are obviously significantly higher for the hotels right on the riverwalk - we%26#39;d be willing to spend the extra $$ if it is recommended......thx

I love to stay on the Riverwalk using the SAVE rates that are available at www.SASave.com. Using that long list of available hotels, try calling the hotels on the Riverwalk to see if the SAVE rate is available. Only then have I felt like it was worth the price to stay right on the Riverwalk. I%26#39;ve enjoyed both La Mansion and The Drury Inn. By the way, there are many good coupons at that SASave site as well. Also, the city garage at $6 per day is a nice alternative to the overpriced parking fees ($25 at La Mansion) at many of the hotels- be sure to find out the parking charge per night for your hotel. Hope that helps!

Yes, being on the Riverwalk is the best. However, I have another suggestion for you. One time we couldn%26#39;t book a Riverwalk room because of a sporting event. I ended up checking out bed %26amp; breakfasts in the area and stumbled upon a gem, only about 2 blocks away from the residential area of the Riverwalk. It was called the Adams House and it was cheaper than staying in the Drury Inn. We had a beautiful room with a 4 poster bed, private bath with double jacuzzi, private entrance (second floor porch with a porch swing) cable tv, telephone and gourmet breakfast. It was so convenient to the Riverwalk, yet this residential neighborhood was interesting and historic in its own right. I am copying the link here.
