My sweetie and I are taking a cross-country road trip next August and we%26#39;d like to stay in hotels or motels that have that real vintage vibe. We don%26#39;t have the trip mapped out yet so all towns will be considered.
I love the Safari Inn, in Burbank California. Sweet Motel with pool and vintage neon but modern facilities.

Unfortunately many older places are torn down or run down. If you know of any diamonds in the rough we鈥檇 love to hear about it.
If you have a recommendation of someplace unusual, that works too.
Thanks for any help!
Looking for Classic Neon Motel/Hotels or unusual stay-over
Austin Motel in Austin.
And I read about the Tee-Pee Motel, but can%26#39;t remember where it is.

I think the Tee Pee Motel is in Wharton.
How about the Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg.
The Hotel Paisano in Marfa
the TeePee Motel is no longer in operation. I drove past it not too long ago and it looked like somebody was in the process of trying to fix up those cool concrete 50 foot high individual teepee rooms. I just think Wharton is too small a place to keep the poor things going.
The Austin Motel is the closest to what you are looking for. You will love it and the neighborhood. Please let us know if you find any great ones on your journey. It sounds like fun.
My all-time favorite hotel in Texas (so far) is the Rogers Hotel in Waxahachie. It%26#39;s not the drive-in motel type, but it is old and authentic and SOO FRICKIN HAUNTED I DIDN%26#39;T SLEEP ALL NIGHT! Seriously. They filmed Bonnie and Clyde there and a couple of other old time movies. It%26#39;s just a beautiful relic. I was seriously creeped out there.
The Tee Pee Motel in Wharton, Texas is open once again. The doors opened on October 30, 2006. The Neon sign is my favorite! Please do check it out.
I agree with Pepper, Austin Motel. It is also located in kitshy South Austin. You can check out their website at http://www.austinmotel.com/home.html.
You can also find out about quirky places throughout Texas in John Kelso%26#39;s Book ';Texas Curiosities.'; Apparently, he is coming out with a 3rd edition at the first of December. You can find out more about John Kelso at www.statesman.com and also info on how to get the book.
Good luck with your trip.
