Hobby Airport Hotels

My sister and I are taking our parents on a cruise for their 60th wedding anniversary. Six members of our family will be flying into Houston on June 16, 2007 on separate flights and leaving on a cruise out of Galveston June 17th. We were thinking of staying at the Country Inn %26amp; Suites or the SpringHill Suites by the Hobby Airport and then driving down to Galveston the next morning. We will have two Sr Citizens, 3 adults and 1 16 year old.

Is it possible to get a suite that would sleep 6 or will we have to take two rooms? With the hotels being close to Hobby airport, what kind of air traffic noise do guests experience?

From looking at transportation options, it seems that two one-way rentals (van) would be cheaper and more flexible than limo or shuttle services. Is there a better idea?

Hobby Airport Hotels

Hi, you must be coming in on southwest... I have lived in this area for years.. 1st, i would not stay close to Hobby as this is not a great section of Houston.. if you do, limit your trips outside at night as the area is a high crime one.. Did you know that the freeway to Galveston is only a few blocks from Hobby and easy to get to.. it%26#39;s I45 South.. and you will only be 45 minutes from Galveston Island.. If you rent a car, i understand Enterprise has deals for cruisers... Also, as far as the Galveston Hotels are concerned.. you will be leaving from the Galveston Bay area.. which is one street over from the famed Strand Blvd.. lots of shopping and eateries... however, the few hotels in this area are rather expensive and upscaled.. the Tremont is blocks from where you will leave as is the Harbour House.. both nice and again, expensive... If you rent a car, you might check into the Gaido Seaside Inn on Seawall Blvd.. it%26#39;s family owned and operated.. next door is their famous seafood resturant.. Gaidos... which by the way is awesome and the best Galveston has to offer..They have a website... they also have a great coffee/lunch area called Casey%26#39;s.. this is a small motel.. on the seawall with wonderful views and plenty to do right around you.. I have stayed at most of the places in Galveston thru the years, but this one is clean and you can easily afford two rooms for what you would pay elsewhere during summer months.. .. the number is 1-800-525-0064. They offer free parking for your car while you are on your cruise.. However, they book up quickly as they are a favorite with the cruise crowd... Good luck... Deb H
