Moving to San Antonio

Hi everyone. My boyfriend and I are planning to move to San Antonio from Pennsylvania after the new year. As a matter of fact, we are headed for Texas in 4 days, but will be staying in Longview Tx. visiting family for a while.

I%26#39;ve been reading this forum off and on for several months now trying to figure out where we will be living. It seems the consensus is to be on the North, North Central, or Northwest side and to avoid the South. My question is how far south would you have to go for it not to be considered a bad area? I plan on enrolling in a program at Palo Alto College because it%26#39;s the only school in the area offering it, but it seems I can find very little about the college or area other than it%26#39;s website and various articles, but nothing from anyone that%26#39;s been there. Does anyone know about the area or the college? I believe it sits just inside the loop 410 and just east of I- 35.

We don%26#39;t have kids, so school districts are not that important. We just want to be in a safe area. I%26#39;ve never been in such a large city and am actually pretty nervous about it. We%26#39;ve actually been having second thoughts about moving there the more we read about the size and crimes etc, but I don%26#39;t want to second guess ourselves out of fear. We also don%26#39;t mind a little commuting if there is nothing on the south side that is acceptable. I was just hoping maybe someone knew about this area in particular.

Thanks in advance for your time!

Kim

Moving to San Antonio

Sorry, I forgot to mention we will be renting and apartment/townhome and not buying just yet. If we ever buy, I%26#39;m sure it will be north in the hill country! :)

If school district is not a factor there are plenty of choices south. The southeast side (around 410 and 87 and Military) is experiencing a boom right now. I haven%26#39;t been in the market for a home in over 20 years and I%26#39;d be looking based on school district anyway, so I don%26#39;t have any recommendations that are more specific.
