Mavericks Game in March - Hotels?

Hello. My husband and I will be in Dallas for the first time in March for a Mavericks game. I need some hotel recommedations. Are we better of staying near American Airlines Center, to be able to walk to the game, or is there an area that would be better for bars and nightlife? The location and entertainment is more important than the price. We like to hang out in sports bars and bars that not necessarily a club scene. We will be in town Wednesday-Saturday , so any other recommendations of fun things to do or must-see places would be appreciated. Thanks.

Angie

If cost isn%26#39;t a factor, I would try the new W- right by AAC. It is within walking distance of the West End- there are sports bars there such as D*ck%26#39;s Last Resort, Hooters, Gators, Cadillac Bar- plus you can catch DART from the West End and check out other areas of downtown as well as Mockingbird Station or North Park Mall. The Dallas World Aquarium is a pretty cool place to see plus the Sixth Floor Museum. Downtown also has the Dallas Museum of Art and Nasher Sculpture Museum. I always mention Thanksgiving Square and the chapel because I think it is such a beautiful peaceful place in the midst of hustle bustle (www.thanksgiving.org).

If you decide cost is a factor, there is a Spring Hills Suites (Mariott) in the West End.

artsdistrict.org and visitdallas.com are good websites for seeing what is downtown as well as order a visitor%26#39;s package.

I have read from some reviews that the W is isolated. How far would you estimate that the hotel is from the bars that you mentioned. We were also wondering if there is another hotel that might be a little further from American Airlines arenas, but closer to some fun bars and restaurants. A few that I looked at include the Palomar and the Fairmont. They looked really nice. I just really want to be in a safe area, where we can walk most places. We will be in town Tuesday-Friday, and the Maverick game is on Wednesday.

Thanks for your help.

The W is about a mile from the bars in the West End- it is a straight shot walking. We were just looking at the Palomar- good offer on travelzoo (hotels.travelzoo.com/lodging-hotels/269427) right now. Since it is up by Mockingbird Station, there would be an active nightlife plus you can take DART to the game or other places like Cityplace or North Park Mall.

Palomar is a good idea - right across (6 lanes, though) from Mockingbird Station where there are many restaurants w/ bars (not clubs) to hang out. Can%26#39;t think of any sports bars in Mockingbird Station.

You can easily take the Dart train into the West End. I%26#39;ve seen a Victory stop - is that a regular stop at AAC? Maybe just for games.

You might like Louie%26#39;s on Henderson. It looks like a scary area; it isn%26#39;t...you%26#39;ll know by all the high-end cars in the parking lot. It%26#39;s a sports bar with what many call the best pizza in Dallas (very thin, cracker-like crust). You can take a cab there.
