I have been here a month now, getting ready to start a new job and really enjoying the smaller town vibe. If you are ever here, maybe checking out the town square or coming here for the Christmas Candlelight Home Tour (waxahachiedowntownmerchants.com/candlelight.…), there are some great little places to eat. We have only hit a few but have enjoyed the following:
The Dove%26#39;s Nest, College Street Pub (live bands), 1879 Chislom Grill, Don Jose%26#39;s, Courtside Grill. I think they all have web sites if you want to check on menus and hours.
Speaking of Waxahachie.....
so, you moved from Ft. Worth, huh? from cow town to small town! i hope you enjoy your new home!
Speaking of Waxahachie.....
And this is just a temporary stop while our house is being built east of Corsicana- my mailing address will be the big city of Kerens! (Hometown of Big Tex) Lots of new placese to visit and discover.
Congratulations poodleone! I did not notice the change of city. Looks like Fort Worth just lost its unofficial local expert.
I love Fort Worth, but I can%26#39;t wait until I am free to move off away from the crowds.
Thanks for the good wishes! Cozbobby- I know you and I will continue to promote FW whenever possible. We will be staying downtown for the Cowntown Marathon in February and I look forward to checking out some of the new bars I was reading about in the startlegram last Friday.
As long as I am shamlessly promoting this part of the world between I-35 and I-45 via 287, I enjoyed a great BLT (DH had the reuben) at Brown Street Cafe in Ennis. The desserts looked terrific but no room to try one- yet. I think The Dove%26#39;s Nest just opened a 2nd location in Ennis and the Kolache Depot (2 locations) is also supposed to be quite good.
Ennis has its Christmas Parade of Lights on Tuesdya, Nov. 28 at 7Pwhile Waxahachie and Corsicana both have their parades on Saturday, December 2.
If you have been looking for a reason to check out this area, come on down- lots to see and do and EAT for the holidays.
I always have a terrible time finding anyhting to eat in Waxahachie - I%26#39;m vegetarian - tried the Dove%26#39;s Nest, but didn%26#39;t care for it. Any other ideas, poodle? I usually go to the Sonic and get a grilled cheese and tots.
Oops- sorry, pepper- meant to reply sooner. I am not much of a veggie eater myself but I would recommend trying 1879 Chisolm Grill there on the square (www.chisholmgrill.com)- they seem to have lots of vegetables on their menu. We like their breakfasts. Plus we like College Street Pub (keeping in mind it is NOT smoke free!)- I asked the waitress and she said there is a melted cheese , tomato and avacado sandwich plus they have some bean and cheese nachos and some decent salads. I%26#39;ll pay closer attention to vegetarian selections when we go out and let you know if anything shows up.
Thanks, Poodle...it%26#39;s good to know there are options. I go down that way every few months of so...if something good is happening at the Webb and then onto Foreston for some vintage shopping.
Great baked potatoes at the Pit BBQ, right off the square across from the police department and Cllege Street Pub. Also good beef and sausage for the carnivores.
