My husband and I moved here 2 weeks ag. My BIG five-oh is this weekend. The plan is to get in the car on Saturday and just drive - see the sights - stop when it feels right - find a place to spend the night and then do it again on Sunday. I got this list of this board... and it sounds good -- but where to sleep -- can anyone suggest a good B%26amp;B - and places to eat... what shouldN%26#39;t we miss?
Fredericksburg; Enchanted Rock; Lost Maples State Park; Hamilton%26#39;s Pool or West Cave Preserve near Austin; Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls; Wimberly
I%26#39;d deeply appreciate any comments or suggestions. THANKS!

good B%26amp;B? try here: http://www.fbglodging.com/ i%26#39;ve used them 3 times in the past and always found a great place to stay in Fredericksburg. while you are there, try this wine bar for great wine and food: http://www.cuveewine.net/
also, The Nest in Fredericksburg has excellent fine dining.
this is a good time to go as many trees are changing colors in the Hill Country. we just went on Saturday. take 290 west out of austin to fredericksburg. there are some wineries that you can stop along the way for sampling and touring. Becker and Grape Creek are two that come to mind. you can also stop at the Wildseed Farm along the way, which is fun for a few minutes. Enchanted Rock is a great place to hike, and it%26#39;s best to get there first thing in the morning as it can fill up. also, Lost Maples would be great right now, as the maples are turning their leaves....

Thanks TexasHam. I appreciate the tips. C.
I vote for Gruene tx.. at the edge of New Braunfels.. pull up their web site and look.. we stay at the Gruene Mansion Inn and it%26#39;s awesome.. you can park your car... sleep, eat at the Gristmill, music at the Gruene Hall and shop all day long.. we do this every anniversary.. the Inn is very romantic... dh
Bed %26amp; Breakfast-- I highly recommend Rose Hill Manor in Stonewall, TX (right outside of Frederickburg) www.rose-hill.com. They are probably already full for the weekend as you have to book pretty far in advance, but they may have a cancellation....(book the Sunrise Room in the Main House, if you can.) Anyhow, the food is delicious (try the eggs benedict), everything was great!
oh, and also, if you like to visit wineries, there are tons of wineries out there where you can do tastings, etc. Two really nice ones (and they do free tastings) are Becker Vineyards and Mandola Estate Winery.
For a B%26amp;B, I recommend Settler%26#39;s Crossing (http://www.settlerscrossing.com/). It%26#39;s been a few years since I%26#39;ve been there. It%26#39;s been featured in magazines and fills up fast.
I echo the Gruene advice. Eat at the GRist mill. Best meal I%26#39;ve ever had in Texas.
