I%26#39;m thinking about moving to Texas from Boston. I was stationed in San Antonio when I was in the military and liked it there. However, I am looking at other cities and would like to know about the feasibility of locating to Houston or Dallas. I have had a great deal of administrative assistant experience, but am actually looking at trying something else, so am looking for different types of opportunities, So, the bigger the job market, the better. I am a middle-aged female military retiree and would like to have a social life with some people around my age. Houston seems as though it might be the best place, but I%26#39;m not sure.
Also, if you live in a downtown area in Houston or Dallas, do you need a car?
Thanks,

Houston%26#39;s job market is booming in general.I am not
well versed with your profile of work but Houston is seeing
a lot of activity in real estate development projects and the oil and
energy industry is booming.
The best places in Houston for single people are the Uptown
and the around the Midtown (Montrose),Rice Village.
Houston is a city of cars. You absolutely need a car here. The
public transport is still nascent .Although there are connections to
downtown by buses from most part of the city, the frequency is
not as good

You can live downtown and midtown without a car but it would be a bit of hassle. Downtown or Midtown you could walk to work -- if you worked downtown. Otherwise, you%26#39;d have to work along the light rail line which would be downtown or medical center and you%26#39;d have one grocery store to shop at. Other than that, you%26#39;d be limited for entertainment and just getting around without a car.
