Island boy visting Houston

I am new member on this forum. I live in Hawaii. Considering I am travel alone for business. I don%26#39;t know the dates in December.

I am visitng Houston, being opposite of people vacation to Hawaii. Could someone give me some ideas about fun things to do, restaurants, shopping, and cheap lodging for 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance!

Shopping %26amp; dining are good in the Galleria and Rice Village. Our museum district is nice and so is the theatre district. Not sure if you are looking for nightlife (bars, clubs) but that is mostly in downtown and midtown. Like sports - maybe you can catch a basketball game. NASA Johnson Space Center attracts a lot of tourists if you are into that sort of thing -- not necessarily Space Center Houston (lots of kid activities) but the actual NASA Space Center Tour. Tourists like the Kemah Boardwalk for lunch but if you are coming from Hawaii I doubt you would find it interesting.

In midtown Farrago (american) is good and so is Cyclone Anaya%26#39;s (Mexican). Baba Yega is a neat environment and really good for the health conscious.

If you stay in downtown or midtown you can take light rail to the museum district but you won%26#39;t be close to shopping. If you stay in the Galleria area - you are in a great shopping area. Whatever you decide - you%26#39;ll need a rental car - we don%26#39;t have good public transportation.

Thanks,

How about cell phone receptions. I use T-mobile. I dont%26#39; know which carrier people use in Houston. I am a little concerned about the underground shopping area. Is there any cell signal down there?

will u be renting a car for the 2 weeks in town ? Houston is sprawling so a car is definitely recommended. While in town, dont forget a trip to an icehouse bar (woodrows is the first to come to mind but they have different locations) :

Here is a list of some of the bars u may want to consider :

Now for some good live music, try the Mucky Duck (great venue, food is also not bad for a bar !):

As for lodging, not sure what ur budget is but dont be fooled by some prices coz it could be right by a freeway (noise is a nightmare esp. I-10).

Good Luck

I have T-Mobile and have great reception all over Houston. I think you%26#39;ll be fine.

I second the recommendation of going to an Ice House type bar while you%26#39;re here. You won%26#39;t find that back home, it%26#39;s laid back and casual, and you%26#39;ll have a great time.

We don%26#39;t really have an underground shopping area. Downtown has a tunnel system but it is mainly restaurants and little shops used by the people who work there. You can%26#39;t get in after normal working hours - and there really isn%26#39;t much there.

The malls you should get good reception - you might have to stand near the windows or the glass in certain malls but you should still get out on your phone.

For dining you definitely want to try some Tex Mex the majority of people will recommend Pappasitos - it%26#39;s good but personally I think it%26#39;s overrated and overpriced. Cyclone Anaya%26#39;s, Chuy%26#39;s are both good and popular (also good people watching) or if you can find a locally owned establlshment those are usually great too.

while in Houston, how can one miss ';soul%26#39; food or Cajun ? there are many in town so it really depends on the budget. Highly recommended. Houston is a city with really friendly and nice people so just go and enjoy any restaurant u fancy. It is a great city for food at affordable prices (how i miss that !!!)
