Oge House or main Riverwalk Hotels

Looking for a very romantic weekend the end of Feb. 07.

Oge House or main Riverwalk Hotels

Between the two, I%26#39;d go with the Oge House. It%26#39;s a plantation style home in the historic district and a short walk or trolley car ride to the main river attractions. Staying in the hotels in the main river area will probably be noisy and less romantic. I live just a few blocks from the Oge House. Never been inside, but it looks awesome from the outside.

I%26#39;ve seen it too, and it DOES look wonderful. The neighborhood is called the King William neighborhood and it is quite old and interesting. I felt perfectly safe walking around, just looking at the homes and statuary, etc.

One thing I thought was interesting is that the Riverwalk meanders through the backyards of some of the homes (on King William Street) where the Oge House is. Most people never get off the section of Riverwalk that features the hotels, restaurants and bars. But it does take a turn and roams through King William. There are a few B %26amp; B%26#39;s in King William. I%26#39;ve stayed at the Adams House on Adams Street a few blocks from the Oge House. It cost less than a downtown hotel, yet offered us a four poster bed, double jacuzzi (private bath, of course) TV w/cable, phone, private entrace via second floor porch which had its own porch swing and a gourmet breakfast in the morning. You can certainly walk to downtown easily (and safely) or use the trolley pass (King William has trolley service to downtown and beyond). I hope you have a wonderful time!
