Will be in New Orleans hopefully and would like to visit San Antonio. Where would be a good stay overnight on the way as it looks a bit far to drive in 1 day. Also we would need a day or two stop over on the way back.
Thanks
Pauline
Drive to San antonio
The drive SA to NO pre-Katrina took about 10 hours, depending on Houston traffic. It may take a bit longer now, if bridges have been damaged. We always made the drive in a day, but then we%26#39;re Texans, who%26#39;re used to having to drive hours and hours to get anywhere. If you wish to break up the trip, I%26#39;d suggest you start looking for a place anytime after you cross the Texas state line. Interstate 10 has lots and lots of chain motels, so you shouldn%26#39;t have trouble finding a place. If you want a stopover, Houston is a natural. Not much else of interest between the two cities, I%26#39;m afraid.

Oh, and by the way, stay on I-10 through Houston. Traffic on the 610 loop around the city is much worse than that on 10 going straight through.
thanks onherown, would have taken the loop
I would agree with the Houston stop. Houston is the 4th largest city in the country and lots to do on your return stop over. We drove this route last June and none of the bridges were out from the storms (I assume this is what the other post was referring to).
The only other place for a stop over, would be the Lake Charles area, where there are several casinos for gambling, if that is an interest to you.
