President's Weekend - need ideas

We%26#39;re staying at a place called Microtel Inn which says it%26#39;s 2 miles from the Riverwalk. We will have our own vehicle but we do not know where to park. We plan on attending the Mardi Gras Arts %26amp; Crafts on the Riverwalk, riding the boat, visiting the Alamo, and eating at HuHot for sure. We%26#39;re driving in really late on the night of the 16th and leaving out early Sunday morning. I really would like to see one more thing on Saturday possibly in the afternoon or evening. Any suggestions for a couple of 30 y/o? We aren%26#39;t into clubs, pubs, or theme parks. Thanks!

Would it make more sense just to leave the car at the hotel and catch a cab for the 2 miles or so? How much would a cab ride like that cost?

If you like history, I would suggest visiting the Institute of Texan Cultures in HemisFair Park and then riding to the top of the Tower of the Americas for dinner or just to check out the views of the city. The tower is right next to the Institute of Texan Cultures.

FYI, the Microtel Inn is in a sketchy area so I would not suggest walking around that area at night.

What hotel would you recommend that is the closest to the Riverwalk but will not break the wallet?

If you’re staying at the “Downtown” Microtel on S. Frio Street you are on the very edge of the tourist area. During the day and early evening the downtown “Trolley” will be a great way to travel. At night I’d use my car or a cab.

As to Sunday morning, there’s always the zoo. They open at 9:00 am and it’s about ten bucks a person. http://www.sazoo-aq.org/ Driving the Mission Trail is also an option. Check out the National Park’s website http://www.nps.gov/saan/

If you’re heading back on I-10, I recommend The Caverns of Sonora, about 170 miles west of San Antonio. http://www.cavernsofsonora.com/ This cave has some of the best formations you%26#39;ll ever see.
