groceries and supplies in big bend national park

What kind of groceries can be bought at the stores in the park? Do we need to bring ALL our food with us? Any thoughts?

Thanks very much

from what I remember, I only saw one gas station while there and they had some food items - but, yes, I would stop in a town before entering BBNP and stock up for sure.

Yeah, there%26#39;s one gas station/store in the park (but not open in the summer) at Panther Junction. The gas prices are pretty inflated so you can just imagine what the food prices are like. Shop in Marathon or Alpine first.

I%26#39;d do my shopping before Marathon. The store there was closed the last time we were there.

Go Aggies...

HI Aggie,

the best thing to do is bring your own staples, and ice chests well packed ... and when you get to either Alpine ( northern routing) or Del Rio ( southern routing) pick up the last of yer stuff like if you need Milk . Down in Study Butte there is a good general store that has basics including fresh veggies and fruit ...also local liquor store ...

premium prices are to be expected ... the park store is kinda like every other RV store at a National or State Park ... slim pickings and junk stuff . Of course in Lajitas is the other general store for foodie stuff, and beer and wine too on that end . If you blow on past that - head for Presidio for the next big store for food .

I always eat with Ms Tracy in Terilingua .....and there are a few new eating joints including the coffeehouse on 118 .

Have a fabulous run- the RIVER IS UP enough to make the river runs through Sante Elena and other areas ... ENJOY+
