Single female relocating to N. Dallas ..need your advice?

Hi everyone

I%26#39;m a single female in my 30%26#39;s and I%26#39;m considering relocating to North Dallas (plano) for career opportunity. I am clueless to were

to live (I%26#39;m considering purchasing a home), what the single lifestyle is, the culture ...etc. Would love to get any advice you have to offer?

Thanks

Plano is so much more family oriented. More singles live in Dallas - Uptown, M-Streets, Downtown, East Dallas/Lakewood.

Thanks for your feedback. Looks like downtown Dallas may also be a good location to buy property as well. Will look into it ...

It is...but the problem with downtown is that you still need to get into your car to do some simple things such as grocery shopping. There is a small grocery store downtown, drug stores, etc...but it%26#39;s no where near established big city living....seeing that you%26#39;re from Boston and all.

Uptown is really the closest thing to that.

If you live in the downtown, uptown, East Dallas, Mockingbird Station, CityPlace areas and work in Plano, you will be going against traffic, but a fairly long drive on a bottlenecked freeway--635 and Central at 5:30 PM pretty much in all directions.

If I were you I%26#39;d look into whether getting to the company you%26#39;re going to be working at will be feasible using DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) as there%26#39;s a train that goes to Plano. Check with them and see whether they offer any inducements for using DART--a lot of Dallas employers pay the monthly cost of DART for employees. Also, they may have a van service or something from the DART station to the office. I%26#39;d see if on most days that would work. Some days you might want to drive due to working late or after work plans, but for the most part I%26#39;d try to use DART.

Mockingbird Station has apartments, is on the transit line, has an independent theater, restaurants and other shops, a big Kroger%26#39;s a few blocks down, and is right across the street from the Pocket Sandwich Theater and the Whole Earth Provision Company, which are two of my all time favorite places. It%26#39;s also right down the street from SMU which has great theater, live shows, a museum, football and other collegiate sports, etc. It%26#39;s really a nice location and lots of things to do and might be just what you%26#39;re looking for as you get settled in our city.

As always, would suggest not buying until you%26#39;ve been in the area for a while and have developed a sense of where you really would like to live.

When I was a single female living in Dallas I lived in a couple different areas but my favorite was Addison. I don%26#39;t know much about the housing market there because I rented a town house but it is a great place to live. You are very close to a lot of bars but you won%26#39;t be too far from Plano where you%26#39;ll be working.
