TexMex and steak restaurants

I am coming to Austin in late October for the Texas Book Fair and would like recommendations for the most popular Texmex and Texas steak restaurants. Thanks all (or u%26#39;all as the case may be)

TexMex and steak restaurants

That would be ';y%26#39;all'; and for the best Tex-Mex, try Chuy%26#39;s. Have a great trip!

TexMex and steak restaurants

I agree on Chuy%26#39;s - don%26#39;t forget, that%26#39;s where the Bush girls got in trouble over their great margaritas!

For steaks? - definitely Dan McKluskey%26#39;s on 6th!

There are plenty of good steak places in town but most are chains. If you%26#39;re looking for non-chain I can recommend Austin Land and Cattle (note: not Texas Land and Cattle). It looks like pretty much nothing from the outside but that%26#39;s true of a lot of Austin landmark restaurants! LOL!

Another great place to dine downtown is the Roaring Fork. Love this place! Try the appetizers at the bar if you%26#39;re not in the mood for a full dinner.

Howdy and welcome to Austin! I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what a big event the Book Fair has become but you might already know it!

No doubt that Chuy%26#39;s is a very popular place to eat Tex-Mex, and its food and service are pretty consistent. Other choices include Trudy%26#39;s (various locations around town; closest to the Book Fair is on 30th Street, just east of Guadalupe) and Jorge%26#39;s (at Eighteenth and Lavaca). If you are interested in more authentic Mexican, try one of the restaurants on Austin%26#39;s ';Mexican Mile';, on South First Street between Riverside and Oltorf. My favorite is Little Mexico, but various posters have their own preferences. The food at El Mercado is good, but with small portions. I%26#39;ve decided to stay away from El Reyna because last time I was there they charged me a dollar to substitute a cheaper sauce on my enchiladas, but it%26#39;s very popular to. You can also find good Mexican food at Juan in a Million (love that name!) during the day only. It%26#39;s on Cesar Chavez, fairly far east. If you like TexMex but want healthy food (yeah, I know, a contradiction in terms, right?) try Mr. Natural, on Cesar Chavez and the south location on South Lamar.

I think the most popular Texas steak restaurant in Austin may be the Texas Land and Cattle Company. The food there is okay and consistent, but it is not a connoisseur%26#39;s restaurant. You can move up two or three notches by patronizing Dan McCluskey%26#39;s, on Sixth Street. If you want a steak dinner to remember to your grandchildren, served on white table-cloths, you actually have some good choices in Austin. Besides national chain Ruth%26#39;s Chris, downtown in the Scarborough Building (6th and Congress), there%26#39;s Sullivan%26#39;s, on Fourth Street; Truluck%26#39;s near the Arboretum; and McCormick and Schmick%26#39;s at Congress and 4th in the Frost Bank. Both Truluck%26#39;s and M%26amp;S are seafood restaurant that offer excellent steaks as well. And while I haven%26#39;t been there in forever, my personal favorite is still Austin Land and Cattle Company (not to be confused with Texas Land and Cattle Company) on Lamar at Enfield and 12th Street. It goes without saying that all of these restaurants are very proud of their food.

Good luck, y%26#39;all!

Wow! Thank y%26#39;all for the excellent advice on restaurants. I can see I am dealing with true southern hospitality.
