I have not been for many years. We want to go Nov 4th. Any suggustions on what time to arrive? any inexpensive motels nearby? We are planning on going to Lake Charles the next day and in need of an interesting itinerary. We have 5 days to do a road trip from San Antonio. I was thinking of also driving up into East Texas, mabe Nacogdoches. Any suggestions on cafes, antiques, xmas shopping, gambling, siteseeing would be appreciated.
Texas Rennasaice FestIf you get there before 10am, you%26#39;re fine, but things start to pick up around lunchtime. They have plenty of parking.
Per motels, Magnolia is the closest town, but Conroe would probably be the closest place with a good amount of hotels. Navasota is also fairly close. It doesn%26#39;t have as many hotels, but it%26#39;s a very interesting town.
I%26#39;ve never found Nacogdoches very interesting. College Station has some character and Huntsville has some sights if you%26#39;ve never been.
If you%26#39;re willing to drive a little bit north, you can take 190 to De Ridder and cut south on Highway 27 (I assume you%26#39;re going to the casinos) or 171 to Lake Charles. Or, TX 105 is a pretty interesting drive and goes all the way to Beaumont. My parents used to drive that when I was a kid in Houston and we would visit family in LA because they hated I-10 (it%26#39;s DULL).
